I've said that a few times the last few weeks. I normally don't have a busy schedule but the last few weeks we have had a lot to do.Unfortunately I have not been able to play Your Shape 2012 or my other Kinect games as often as I would like.
So I can still get some activity and exercise during the day, I have come up with a few simple things to do during the day.
Park far away. Be it work, the grocery store, or most any other place, I park far from the door. It's been cold, but not too bad, and I don't mind a brisk walk if I am heading someplace warm. As a bonus, when I am walking back to the car from a store, I may have bags I can use as weights for even more calories burned. This leads me to my next tip...
Everyday weights. These are everyday items you have around the house that can be used as weights. A gallon of water, a carton of kitty litter, even a small child. Anything you can lift, especially handled items, are great to use. Even just walking around holding something with a bit of mass can help a person get into shape.
Don't be lazy. Why ask someone else to grab you that remote when you can do it yourself. I have stopped asking anyone to get me anything and instead I get up myself. This goes for things dropped or on the floor, bending down is great for your legs if you do it right, careful not to strain your back.
Weighting while waiting. I spend a lot of my time at work on the phone, and most of that time is on hold. While waiting for someone to help me, I exercise. Having a small dumbbell is a great idea, a few reps while waiting for a rep is a great way to work those arms. I like to do some of the exercises I learned from Your Shape 2012, like yoga moves and stretches, or jog in place. I don't care if some of my co-workers look at me funny, they aren't the ones who weigh 400lbs.
Television time is workout time. It's not quite the same as a real workout, but when I have watched a bit of TV I have tried to exercise a bit too. Lay down and do some leg lifts during "30 Rock" or get a few push-ups in while "How I Met Your Mother" is advertising. I don't watch a lot of TV but when I do I try and be active at the same time.
Walk, don't drive. It's been too cold here for much walking, but once it warms up I will be walking places instead of driving, when I can. I think it was last year that I tried biking to work, maybe 10 miles each way. When I finally made it home the first day I hurt so bad that the next few days I would drive part way and then bike, driving closer and closer each day until I didn't bike at all. I can't bike to where I currently work, but if a new job were to come along it would be something I could consider.
These are all very simple and probably very obvious. They don't take a lot of extra time in the day, and can be an alternative to a 30 minute work out. Actually, I would consider them to be an addition to a daily workout. They really do work, too. I can jog to my car almost 2 city blocks away and be just as out of breath as I used to get by walking to my car 50 feet away.
Please post inthe comments section any of your ideas for things to do during the day to help lose weight and get in shape.
It looks like time is catching up to me yet again. We have a full day tomorrow and it is almost time for bed. I wrote it once and I will write it again...
There just aren't enough hours in the day.
